Completed during the mid-1890, the original residents were Thomas Vance and his wife. Little is known about Mr. Vance except that he was a horticulturist and that he incorporated two innovative ideas into his home. He introduced the use of firewalls in the construction and placed a cistern atop the wash house in the back to capture fresh rainwater. The style is an example of an elaborate Queen Anne.
